Placement test
Before the start of the LŠSS, all participants must take a placement test. The test is written individually on-line.
The test includes: grammar, reading, listening, writing.
The link to the Placement Test was emailed to all participants with their finalized application.
Upon your arrival in Prague, you will have a short oral interview on Friday 18. 7. 2025.
Orientation (registration, placement test)
We expect all internal students (staying in the dormitory) to be present at the Registration on Thursday 17 July 2025. On this day the Registration will take place directly at Masaryk Dormitory (Thákurova 1, Prague 6) from 10:00 to 18:00. If you arrive at the dormitory outside of this time, you will receive your room keys at the reception (open 24/7) and will register on Friday, July 18 at 9:00 a.m. in Celetná 13.
External participants who do not live at Masaryk Dormitory will arrive in Celetná 13 street, Prague 1 in room 107 on Friday July 18 at 9:00. You will be registered, get a student card and undergo a mandatory placement interview.
If you plan to arrive later than on Friday morning, please let us know by email lsss.praha@ff.cuni.cz.
Regular classes begin on Monday, July 21 at 9:00 a.m.
The beginning of LŠSS
OPENING CEREMONY AND WELCOME DINNER
The Opening Ceremony will take place on Saturday 19 July 2024 at 14.00 in the Grand Auditorium Karolinum, Ovocný trh 560/5, Prague 1.
Joint departure for the Opening Ceremony of the LSSS from the Dormitory is at 13:00. If you get to Karolinum on your own, the meeting is at 13:45 in Karolinum. Please arrive on time.
The LŠSS Opening Ceremony will be followed by a Welcome Dinner at the Vinohradský pivovar (Korunní 2506/10) starting at 17:00.
For Sunday (20. 07. 2025) afternoon, we have prepared Prague Districts program that will introduce you to your classmates, lecturer, and one district of Prague. Meeting is at 1:45 p.m. in the lobby of Masaryk Dormitory. You will receive a e-mail with information where you will go by 13:00 on Sunday, July 20.
Accommodation
All (internal) students will be accommodated at Masaryk Dormitory. Since the capacity of the dormitory is limited, there is not room to accommodate all special wishes and requests. If you have special requests that were not already mentioned in the Questionnaire sent to you, please contact lsss.praha@ff.cuni.cz as soon as possible.
Rooms are provided with bed linen and towels. Rooms are not equipped with air conditioning. Every two or three rooms form a cell with a shared bathroom and a kitchenette with a fridge (equipped with a stove, but usually not dishes).
Wi-Fi access in the dorm is available upon registration or upon request at the dormitory reception.
During the first week of LŠSS, our assistants will be available in the dormitory at designated times. Office hours in the LŠSS assistants’ office at the dormitory are every day from 18:30 to 19:30 during the first week.
Reporting of faults to the reception (speaking Czech and English).
Check-in 17. 7. 2025, reception working hours 24/7 (break 18:30-19:00).
Checkout 14. 8. 2025 at 10:00 (it is possible to request luggage storage at the reception).
It is possible to pay for accommodation for several nights before and after the Summer School (subject to availability) at your own expense. You can pay the fee by card or cash directly at the dormitory. The price is 700 CZK/night (including breakfast), 850 CZK/night (including breakfast) when using a double room as a single.
If you wish to extend your accommodation before the LSSS, please contact lsss.praha@ff.cuni.cz as soon as possible. During the LŠSS, please contact the Masaryk Dormitory Accommodation Office directly.
If you will have guests, Masaryk Dormitory offers hotel-style accommodation. For reservations, please contact the Masaryk Dormitory accommodation office or booking.com directly.
Catering
SCHOLARSHIP STUDENTS
The scholarship holders (MŠMT, RUK and the Josef, Marie and Zdeňka Hlávka Endowment) are provided with all-day meals.
Breakfasts (and/or brunches on the weekends of July 19, 20, 27 and August 2, 3, 10) are provided in the Masaryk College cafeteria, buffet style. In addition, they will receive 44 meal vouchers worth 100 CZK for lunches (20x) and dinners (24x). Welcome (19. 7.) and farewell (8/13) buffet-style dinners and lunch on orientation day (18. 7.), lunch on the 8/8 trip, and two packed lunches for the trips (26. 7., 9. 8.) are also provided.
Each 2-3 room dorm cell has its own kitchenette with refrigerator.
A list of restaurants in the vicinity of the main building of the Faculty of Arts of Charles University that take meal vouchers can be found on the bulletin boards in the faculty hallway, in the dormitory and also here.
INTERNAL SELF-PAYERS
When staying in the dormitory as a self-payer you are provided with breakfast in the dormitory canteen. Welcome (19. 7.) and farewell (13. 8.) buffet-style dinners and lunch on orientation day (18. 7.), lunch on the 8. 8. trip, and two packed lunches on the trip (26. 7., 9. 8.) are also provided.
Other lunches and dinners are paid for / arranged individually.
Each 2-3 room cell in the dorm has its own kitchenette with a refrigerator.
EXTERNAL SELF-PAYERS
External participants can join the welcome and farewell banquet on payment of an additional fee of 1600 CZK. If you are interested in attending, please contact lsss.praha@ff.cuni.cz.
Transport
Students will arrange their own transport around Prague. We recommend buying a monthly voucher for 550 CZK at the Infocentre at Můstek station. Students between the ages of 18 and 26 are entitled to a student discount. On the day of registration, you will receive a certificate of study for the Transport Company of the city of Prague. Support in case of health problems of LŠSS students
A support team is available to assist students during classes and in the dormitories (including emergency situations at night).
The assistant team is available every day during classes in the main building in room 303.
Medical facilities
Due to the proximity to the accommodation facility and the wide range of medical services, students are taken to the Motol University Hospital in cases of health problems. We have had good experiences in the past with the Na Národní Polyclinic.
